Alfredo Alonso

Welcome!

We’re delighted to be attending AIRMIC in Brighton in person this year.  All of us at Allianz are looking forward to meeting and reconnecting with you across the course of the two days – in conference sessions, at our exhibition stand or during our networking opportunities.

While the pandemic has kept us physically apart, it has also served to remind us that the pace of change for the world we live in continues to accelerate rapidly and the uncertainty of our times increases.  Consistency and certainty have never been more valuable but innovation and evolution are equally critical. That’s why AGCS is committed to creating strategic, long-term partnerships with our customers to manage the fast evolving risks of today and tomorrow, together.

Come and talk to us today about how we can align our expertise to the risks you face and support your needs through our dedicated, multi-disciplined, global team of experienced risk consultants, engineers, claims and industry experts.

Best regards,

Alfredo

ESG

Environmental, social and governance (ESG) metrics can be hard to measure, but the risks surrounding them are increasing, as governments and citizens exert pressure on business to change their ways for the greater good. In this report, AGCS experts highlight some of the most pressing issues which should be on the boardroom agenda and outline how companies can mitigate risk and ‘do the right thing’.

D&O

In what has been a volatile year for global markets and corporate officers – from the pandemic to lockdowns to political upheaval to unprecedented warnings of insolvencies to come – boards of management are more vulnerable to a litany of business exposures than ever. What are the five Directors and Officers (D&O) mega trends companies should watch for and guard against?

Ransomware is still an evolving risk, but Insurers including AGCS have been working with companies to identify the best practices and standards that can improve their security. Review our ransomware protection security check list.

We are shaping change for what’s ahead by working with others to find solutions for a sustainable future.

Our ambition is to move from being a responsible company in our own right to leading in the financial services industry and beyond. To achieve it, we focus on three high-impact areas:

The sun setting on a wind farm

Tackling Climate Change

Anticipating the risks of a changing climate, protecting vulnerable people and targeting investments and engagement to drive a low carbon future.

Integrating ESG

Leading in our industry for how we consider environment, social and governance (ESG) issues in our insurance, investments and asset management.

AGCS is a a proud partner of Richard House, London’s first children’s hospice.

Opened in 2000, Richard House was London’s first children’s hospice. It was founded by our Life-President Anthea Hare, who was inspired by both her experience as a paediatric nurse at Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, and through helping her parents to look after her severely autistic brother.

Today we support more than 300 families from Newham, Barking, Dagenham, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest, Hackney, Redbridge, Haringey, Islington, Ilford, Camden and into South Essex.

Covid was a shock to our system

We were a very intimate group of people, we were like a family. But then the next minute it was like, “we can’t touch each other”. I think a lot of people just went numb, basically.

Our jobs had to change, especially in the beginning. Before we got long-term children staying in residential, we were told to go on outreach. Then as time went on, you were either locked down in residential or you were doing outreach. We were used to going out; taking the children out of residential to the cinema. But everything was closed down. And all the long-term children staying in residential were really high-level cases. It was quite intense and stressful.

Having to wash your hands every minute, and take a test every time you go in, can be trying. I just try to stay positive. It was a big change for me to be going into communities. I felt like I was impacting families that I was looking after. With one family, the parents were terrified to take their vulnerable children outside. I was able to encourage them, that at some point these children needed to get some fresh air.

It was nice to see children being looked after in their homes. And it made you understand the child a bit more, in terms of why they are the way they are, and how they’re living in their environment.

We’ve been in survival mode of just trying to get through the whole pandemic. Now we’re trying to readjust, still not knowing what we can do and depending on the child. Recently we were able to take a child to the cinema because things are starting to open up again.

It has been quite hard to create memories, in line with our values. But now we can get back to that: creating good memories for these children.

Richard House Children’s Hospice

Life beyond lockdown

Aliyah’s Story- Why is Richard House so important for you?

Richard House continue to deliver palliative care to life-limited children both at Richard House and, increasingly, at home. One family who have benefited from their specialist palliative care is Natasha and her daughter Aliyah, 3. Natasha and Aliyah have been visiting Richard House for more than 3 years now, since Aliyah was 6 months old.

Natasha explains why Richard House is so important to her and Aliyah:

“My days are full of caring for Aliyah and her complex needs. She can’t walk or talk and needs specialised care, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Aliyah hasn’t yet been diagnosed but her condition shows similar characteristics to Cerebral Palsy. To help Aliyah thrive and stay as well as possible, we need to make sure she spends a certain amount of time in different positions; such as her chair, standing frame or tummy time. It’s quite full-on really.

Richard House provides parents like us a rest, which without Richard House I wouldn’t get. They provide staff who can mimic exactly what we do and provide the same level of care I give.

They also provide us the opportunity to interact with other parents, who know exactly what each other are going through. It allows us to expand our support system.

Over the past year, we haven’t been able to get that same level of interaction and it has meant many of us have become very isolated.”

These words are echoed by so many of the parents and care givers who are supported through Richard House but truthfully so many of them felt this way before the pandemic ever began and months of isolation has left many struggling to cope. This is why it is so essential Richard House restart their services.
