2024 USA BASKETBALL SHOWCASE LONDON (USA vs Germany)

USA Basketball have announced that the USA Basketball Women's National Team will play the German Women’s National Team at London’s The O2 on Tuesday 23 July 2024, as part of the 2024 USA Basketball Showcase ahead of the Olympic Games Paris 2024

The USA Basketball Showcase features a series of games that help USA Basketball national teams prepare for major competitions, including the FIBA World Cup and Olympic Games. The USA Men’s National Team will play South Sudan and Germany at The O2 on Saturday 20 and Monday 22 July 2024, respectively.

Hosted in partnership between USA Basketball and TEG Sport, the USA Women’s National Team’s matchup with Germany will mark the U.S. women’s first visit to London since winning the gold medal at the 2012 Olympics.

“USA Basketball is looking forward to adding our women’s national team to the USA Basketball Showcase in London,” said Jim Tooley, CEO, USA Basketball. “Not only will playing Germany provide a great opportunity for our team, but it will highlight the growth of women’s basketball around the world as we prepare to defend our gold medal in Paris.”

The USA officially qualified for the Olympic Games 2024 after winning its 11th World title at the 2022 FIBA Women’s World Cup. The USA women are seeking their eighth straight– and 10th overall – Olympic gold medal.

In total, USA Basketball will be represented by four teams at the Olympic Games 2024, including 5-on-5 men and women and 3x3 men and women. The USA are reigning Olympic champions in 5-on-5 men and women and 3x3 women. The 3x3 men are set to make their Olympic debut next summer. More information about all four USA Basketball teams will be announced at a later date.

Geoff Jones, CEO, TEG Group: “TEG Sport is thrilled to Partner with USA Basketball to bring the Women's Team to London to play Germany ahead of the 2024 Games, as part of TEG’s continued growth globally. We are committed to delivering an unforgettable experience for fans and players alike, and we look forward to showcasing the best of basketball on an international stage."

Chris Grant OBE, Chair, GB Basketball: "We are delighted that USA Basketball selected London as its final stop before competing at the 2024 Olympics. How wonderful it is that our passionate fans will have the opportunity to get close to some of the best players in the world! Just as USA Basketball is passing through London on its way to Paris, our ambition is that four years from now our GB teams will be touching down in the USA on our way to Los Angeles 2028."

Lisa Thomaidis, head coach, German National Team: "We are looking forward to the opportunity to compete against the USA prior to the Olympics.  Our team has been on a rapid rise over the last year and competing against the best team in the world is another crucial step in our growth."
